Lesson Plan:
Science:  Animal Adaptations Olympics!  Weather and time permitting...we will begin our Animal Adaptation Olympics  with the first of four events.  Today we will be emulating the adaptation of the Cheetah, an animal that can reach speeds of up to 60 mph, by running the 100 meter dash.  Students will run, two at a time, on the baseball field to see how fast they can run.
If time allows, students will participate in the second of our four Olympic events, the long jump.  Students will try to imitate a kangaroo, which can jump up to 40 feet in a single bound.  Standing on the grass border of the right field line on the baseball field, students will have three opportunities to see how far they can leap in the standing long jump.

Science:   Students will finish, or complete the event from yesterday, and then begin the third Olympic event.  In this event, students will try to emulate the arctic tern, a bird that flies up to 22,500 mile during its migratory flight from the North Pole to the South Pole, by constructing a paper airplane.  Upon completion, student will then go out in the front parking lot and fly their "birds" to see how far they fly.   Students will have three opportunities to fly their birds.
